Maybe not immediately but over time. Let us never get to comfortable, comfortability is the slow killer and makes us weak. The small bargain with yourself where you feel “I can skip that” or “ive done this 1000 times I don’t need to do that.”
The moment we get to comfortable is the beginning of the end. Challenge yourself daily to not only uphold but exceed the standard you set for yourself and what is set for you.
Not getting the hair cut, not wearing Sapi plates in our flaks, not shaving when we know we should, not topping off the fuel because it’s to cold to get out of your bivvy sack. All may seem like small things, you may even say. What’s the point those things don’t matter.
I ask you to reconsider, small keys open big doors and small things lead to bigger things down the road. The lack of paying attention to detail leads us down a path of inconsistency and failure down the line. Those small things can result in missing gear, accountability and even death in the most serious terms. A story my father taught me where a war was most for “the want of a nail” small things can have large repercussions.
So I leave you with a thought,
“Discipline is NOT punishment, discipline is what’s needed to develop resilience and grit. Discipline is the highest form of self love”
“The moment you assume you’re safe is the moment you’re most vulnerable.”
